The Hounding Of Irons

by Mr. Pepys, Evening Standard (London)
March 25, 1994

THE actor Jeremy Irons is the toast of the fox-hunting community, having told the current Premiere magazine: 'I love hunting. Yes, I am quite militant about hunting.'

Irons follows hounds in Oxfordshire, where his manly presence elicits squeals of pleasure from women riders. Even the horses like him, I hear. No doubt a fox or two would admit to a grudging admiration.

Irons also tickles mothers picking up their children at the Dragon School, Oxford, into which he sometimes swerves on a giant motorbike, clad head to toe in black leather. What a splendid chap he is.

A friend tells me: 'He's not a luvvie in the least, you know.' We have to be wary about actors, though. They could be acting at being nice and un-luvvie. Just a thought.
