Winstar Unveils 2001 Film Slate; 'Beckett On Film' with Irons, among others, out in August

Winstar Cinema, which last fall released Edward Yang's critically acclaimed "Yi Yi (A One and a Two)," on Tuesday outlined plans for its 2001 release slate, which includes a mix of new movies and restored versions of older foreign films.
For late summer, Winstar has scheduled the August 10 release of "Beckett on Film," which will be presented in five separate feature programs containing film versions of Beckett's 19 plays. Segments will feature Jeremy Irons, Alan Rickman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Julianne Moore and the late Sir John Gielgud and were directed by Atom Egoyan, Neil Jordan, Anthony Minghella, David Mamet, Karel Reisz and Patricia Rozema.
"There is still a market for high-quality art films in the U.S., and Winstar Cinema remains dedicated to serving it with the best product we can find," said Wendy Lidell, vp at New York-based Winstar Cinema, the theatrical distribution division of Winstar TV and Video.
