Dennis ("Easy Rider") Hopper is back on a motorcycle this week, riding around the Nevada desert with the likes of Jeremy Irons and Sydney Pollack in a rally sponsored by the Guggenheim Museum. "We'll be traveling about 80 miles north of Las Vegas," Irons told us before leaving. "We eat, drink and celebrate art - but on two wheels." Clear the roads. Irons and Hopper, along with Thomas Krens, director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation were at a Friday news conference announcing two new museums. Continuing a trend toward mixing culture and neon, the Hermitage and Guggenheim Museums plan to offer their masterpieces on the gaudy Las Vegas Strip. Two spaces -- the Guggenheim Las Vegas and the Hermitage Guggenheim Museum -- will be built by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rem Koolhaas in The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. The inaugural exhibition will be "The Art of the Motorcycle" that opened at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1998. |
