Irons Ascends to 'Kingdom of Heaven'

LOS ANGELES - English actor Jeremy Irons (news) has made his way to "Kingdom of Heaven," a romantic epic set in 12th Century Europe and the Far East.

The Fox project, to be directed by Ridley Scott ("Gladiator"), stars Orlando Bloom as a young peasant who becomes a knight, saves a kingdom and falls in love with a princess (Eva Green) during the crusades. Liam Neeson, Marton Csokas, David Thewlis and Brendan Gleeson also star.

The film, which will shoot in Spain and Morocco, started production Monday. Irons won an Academy Award in 1991 for his role in "Reversal of Fortune." His recent credits include "Callas Forever," "And Now ... Ladies and Gentlemen," "Last Call" and the upcoming "Being Julia."
